We are Michigans ONLY travelling takeback program. Check out some of the specifics below!
Since 2020, Michigan Ewaste has provided a FREE service to Michiganers, covering a footprint that covers over 66% of our Lower Peninsula.
With a reuse, refurbish, recycle stance, we have helped Michiganders safely recyele unwanted consumer and commercial electronics, with nearly no limitations. In each location, we help communities feel the comfort of knowing that thier dead televisions, computers, outdated cell phones, even toasters, aren't left to rot in our landfills, or left to leech chemicals into our watertable. Moreover, our strict chain of custody policies and data-destruction procedures ensure that our custoemrs are left much safer than simply disposing of these items. Each year our program has grown- to date, having processed over 120 thousand pounds of electronic waste!

Chain of Custody. For a variety of our services, we are trusted with the custody of our customers sensitive data- something we take very seriously. It is our policy that the posession of client data be logged and maintained. Video Capture of the transportation of data bearing items is collected via HALO body cam, and stored in the cloud. Data items are locked in a secure area under surveillance until destruction.
Data Destruction. Michigan Ewaste uses multiple methods to ensure customer or client data is securely, permanently destroyed. We use guidance from authorities such as R2, E-Stewards, and NIST to adapt policies designed to protect the people, businesses and municipal bodies who place thier faith in us. For mechanical hard drives under 1tb, disks platters are repeatedly punctured by arbor press and awl. Older, non-SATA disks in this caregory have thier PCB removed, pulverizing key chips. Mechanical disks larger 1tb or larger are erased using the DoD 5220.22-M standard. Non-Mechanical media is pulverized. Data destruction certificates are available, at $7 per item, with bulk discounts available. Certificate details include date of destruction, method of destruction, technician, and serial number / description of item
Refrigerant. At this time, we do not accept items containing freon or other refrigerants. Safe handling of these gasses requires the knowledge associated with, and posession of, and EPA 608 certificate. We do not posess the tools, skills, or certification at this time, however, its toward the front of our priority list. In the interim, we cannot accept these materials.
Mercury We do not accept items containing large mercury switches, i.e. older thermostats.
