Commercial Cardboard Recycling — Help Us Bring Local Collection Back

Michigan Ewaste is exploring a new cardboard-only recycling program for businesses in Owosso and surrounding Shiawassee County communities.

With changes to local recycling infrastructure, we believe there may be an opportunity to provide a reliable, locally operated solution for businesses whose recycling needs are not addressed by residential collection programs.

Before making the substantial investment in transportation, baling equipment, and processing infrastructure, we need to understand local demand. Your interest can help determine whether this program becomes a reality.

In-town planning baseline
About $10/week

Our preliminary starting assumption is for businesses within an efficient Owosso/in-town route.

This is not a guaranteed rate or offer.

Outlying communities

Route distance matters

Service in communities such as Durand, Perry, or other outlying areas would likely need to be priced higher to account for travel and route costs. Final service areas and rates have not been established.

Why businesses may benefit

For context, one local business is currently paying approximately $170 per month for a Waste Management cardboard dumpster. At the preliminary in-town planning baseline of $10 per week, that would be approximately $43 per month—an illustrative potential difference of about $127 per month before taxes, final terms, and any route adjustments.

This comparison is provided to explain the potential value of the concept. It is not a promise of savings, a quote, or a guarantee that every business will receive the $10/week baseline.

Resident drop-off interest

We are also evaluating a potential cardboard drop-off point for Shiawassee County residents. No public drop-off site is currently operating.
